Huge congratulations to all students who sat the Junior Certificate examinations this year. Exceptional results were achieved by a large number of students with 20 students obtaining 3A grades or higher at Higher level.

Special congratulations to Luke Hodgkiss who attained 10 A grades at higher level and to Kealy McCabe and Shauna O Rourke who attained 9 A grades at Higher level.

Ellen Fitzpatrick, Jack Rowland and Michael Flaherty  all achieved 8 A grades at Higher level and Mila Evans, Andrew Lee Mitchell and Niamh Lawlor achieved 6 A grades at Higher level. Ailbhe Keatley and Noreen Buzenschi achieved 5 A grades at Higher level.

Well done to all students on their wonderful results.

Scoil Mhuire Award ceremonies were held on Monday May 22nd for Seniors and Tuesday 23rd for Juniors.

The annual award ceremonies are very much an integral part of the school calendar and are eagerly anticipated by all students. Announcements of subject nominees are made in assemblies a week prior to the awards. Over the two days a total of more than 100 awards were given rewarding all aspects of school involvement from academics to the arts, music and personal commitment to the school. As part of the ceremonies students were entertained by fellow students performing songs from this year’s musical -  Shrek, student singers and musicians, Junk Kouture entrants and the excellent school choir. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.

Today, the business department would like to present a very special award to an exceptionally gifted business student. The award is for outstanding contribution to business and entrepreneurship.

Well done to all who took part in the Sports Day. Thank you to all teachers and students who helped make it such a great success.

Our school is part of the Academic Achievement Awards programme at NUI Maynooth. The winners this year were; Sophie Callanan, Mark Brien, Niamh O’Carroll and Megan Farrell. We were very pleased to have Mr John McGinnity, Admissions Officer NUI Maynooth in our school to present the awards. We were also delighted to have the parents of the award winners with us on this special occasion. Mr McGinnity shared valuable advice with all the Sixth Year students and encouraged them to strive to achieve their goals and realise their full potential. He wished all the students every success with their future endeavours.

The Religion department continues to foster and encourage an active awareness of social justice in Sixth Year. The day Fr Peter McVerry visited generated an immense impact on the majority of our students. The impact was so strong that the group decided that they should give something back. It was decided that the students would be asked to contribute towards helping some homeless people to pay for a hostel for a few nights around Christmas. The cost per night is about €5, a total of €550 was collected. It was then agreed to put some money into Christmas cards to be given to some homeless. We are so lucky to have a very talented card designer in our group. Sarah Beegan indicated that she was willing to make homemade cards instead of those mass produced. Regardless of the amount of work involved it was decided that it would be much more personal to make our own. Sarah donated all the materials and a production line was established to manufacture a large amount of cards. Each card had a hand written message from our year group.

On the 20th December a representative group travelled to Dublin. The students were Harry Kelly, Colm O’Sullivan, Emily Kinsella, Eva O’Connell, Muireann Healy, Stephen Duffy, Sarah Beegan and Robbie Walsh. After an inspiring talk Fr. McVerry brought us to the Youth Café on Berkeley Street. There was a Christmas themed morning open to any homeless person to drop in and have breakfast, warmth and company. We spoke to many homeless people as the students presented them with the cards. The level of appreciation shown by these people will live long in our memories. The school community were so proud of the happiness that all our Sixth Year students brought to these people, even if only for a brief time. Well done to all!

Nearly 1,300 entries were submitted to Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture this year and the four designs was chosen by the Junk Kouture judges to make it through to the regional finals.

The regional final takes place in the Helix, Dublin on Thursday March 2nd 2017 where the four creations will impress the judges with not only their designs, but a performance on the catwalk!

This year’s Doodle 4 Google competition is very special, the winning doodle will feature on the Google Ireland homepage for 24 hours in April. Millions of people will have the opportunity to see it, and understand what creativity & innovation means to all of our young artists today. This year’s theme is.... I love space. I think it's fascinating and beautiful, but the sheer size and vastness of space terrifies me. But I thought, what if I could shrink space? I decided that, if I could create anything, it would be a tiny Galaxy all to myself.

Congratulations to Rachel Reidy who graduated from Scoil Mhuire  in June this year on her participation in the Intermediate All Ireland Ladies Football win on Sunday last in Croke Park. Rachel and her Kildare  team had a super win over Clare to bring home the Mary Quinn Cup. Rachel is now studying Sports Science and Health in DCU. We wish her well in her studies and continued success in her sporting career.

The chosen charity for this year’s 5th year fundraiser was Pieta house. As a group they decided to raise money for Pieta House. There is a growing awareness of the importance of mental health in society and people feel more able to seek help. Pieta House plays a vital role in aiding individuals and families who have been affected by suicide and depression. The 5th year students felt compelled to help this extremely influential charity in raising awareness on this important matter and raising essential funds for Pieta House.

Over a number of months the students raised €5000 for Pieta House meeting the original goal that they had set out to achieve. The students organised a variety of fundraising events in order to raise this invaluable amount such as bake sales, a Christmas Jumper Day, the infamous Student vs Teacher soccer match and the popular Action Concert. Funds raised from the very successful Liam Lawton Christmas Concert also went towards this cause.

Well done to the 5th year fundraising committee for all their hard work and dedication, members were;
Siofra McAullife, Stephen Duffy, Christopher Ryan, Robbie Walsh, Hannah Lee, Roisin Boyling, Katie Christanseen, Harry James, Kate Crowley, Emily Blake, Aoife Fiztgerald and Ciara Murphy. They could not have achieved their goal without the help of their Religion teaches, Mr Kavanagh, Ms Carden, Ms Mc Mahon and Mr Breslin and their Year Head, Mr Cahillane.

Avisited the school to give the students a talk about the work of Pieta House and to thank them for their generous donation. The committee would like to thank all the students and teachers who supported and donated to this worthy cause.

Fifth year Student Harry McCann has been invited to New York City from March 4th-11th as Founder of the Digital Youth Council to participate in Three Dot Dash, which is a global initiative of the 'We Are Family Foundation'.  Three Dot Dash was designed to recognise and support the efforts of Global Teen Leaders all around the World who are actively working on projects that promote a more peaceful society by addressing issues related to basic human needs: food, water, health, shelter, safety, education and the environment.

Harry is  also being filmed as one of the key figures for a RTE series which will be airing on RTE1 in September. It is a four part series for RTE/BAI on digital literacy, led by Lord David Puttnam. It's a campaigning series which will hopefully encourage people in all walks of life and levels of technological experience to do a bit more with digital. Filming was done with Lord Puttnam, Enda Kenny among others.

Finally, Harry and Jack Cullen have launched a new education movement called #LetsTeachCode, which is aiming to bring coding into classrooms all around the World, starting with one classroom, in one country at a time. The aim over the next two years is to bring coding to 196 classrooms in 196 countries, by working with embassies, Governments, and businesses. the two students are currently in negotiations regarding this project. They have  received quite a bit of publicity for this, and featured in 6 different newspapers, RTE 2FM Dave Fanning show, KFM and others.
