Welcome to the latest edition of the Scoil Mhuire Community School newsletter. The newsletter gives an insight into how busy the school has been during the first term. Well done to all the students who represented the school this term and a big thank you to all the teachers who facilitated students in doing so. Congratulations to Niall Milsom, Aoibhinn O’ Neill, Sean Curran and Cathal Sheridan who were awarded academic excellence certificates recently by NUI Maynooth for their achievements in 5th year Summer examinations.
Past students Aine O Connell, Sheila Houlihan, Roisin Eyres, Ciara Crofton and Katie Meldrum have all received honours recently from their chosen universities for achieving over 500 points in Leaving Certificate 2012. The students were celebrated at award ceremonies in NUI Maynooth, NUI Galway, UCD and Trinity College. Congratulations to all our past students and we wish them well in their studies.
Scoil Mhuire students are busy both in class and outside. Some of the extra-curricular activities taking place in the school this term are : Photography and Media, Chess, Golf, Horse Riding, Debating, Sewing, Tag Rugby, Basketball, Cross Country, Soccer, Gaelic football, Hurling, Camogie, Spike-ball, School Musical, 5th year play, Stars Talent Contest and Horse Riding with the Disabled.
The prefect team for this year are Aisling Morrin, David Morrissey, Lauren Morrissey, Simon Chambers, Amera Ateya, Cathal Sehridan, Sean Christanseen, Niamh Coleman, Aoibhinn O’ Neill and Thomas Tierney.
The debating team are enjoying wonderful success at the moment in the Leinster Junior Schools, The Aoife Begley Memorial and Rotary Debating Competitions. Second year, Transition and Fifth year students are increasing in confidence and skill with each debate.
Well done to Aisling Morrin, Thomas Tierney, Darragh Sheridan, Sean Curran, Niall Milsom and Cathal Sheridan who represented the school very well in the anuual ISTA Science Quiz in Maynooth recently.
They won a copy of "A neutron walks into a Bar" for the school.
Fifth year and Transition year students, had their heads shaved in the K-Club Spa Hair Salon last week to raise money for Cancer Research as part of the Irish Cancer Society ‘Shave or Dye’ campaign. Students Oisin Shortt, Andy Malone, Jonathan Flynn, David Lee, Shane Collins, Conor Gordo, Shane Morrison and Colm Staines have so far raised over €1,000 and are still counting.
