Scoil Mhuire Community School, Clane – Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture Wildcard 2017

Bank of Ireland surprised five schools with Wild Cards for the final of Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture 2017. Now in its 7th year, Ireland’s leading fashion and art competition for secondary schools challenges students to create unique, original and innovative outfits from recycled materials and junk. Snapchat Superstar James Kavanagh presented Dearbhla Martin wearing The Happy Camper along with her classmates Orla Fitzgerald and Jenna Cross from Scoil Mhuire, with the precious Wild Card, which secures them a place at the final in the 3 Arena on April 27th 2017.
'The Happy Camper' along with 'All Tied Up' by Rebecca Phillips, Una Dowling and Lauren Percival, and 'Monochrome Monarch' by Alex Zagwoka and Hannah Doherty Greene will now walk the runway as 3 of 80 Junk Kouture Grand Finalists from over 1,300 entries nationwide and be judged by Louise Walsh, Una Healy, Jane Leavy, Ryhs Leavy, and Tracy Fahy in the 3 Arena on April 27th.

The entry chosen to proceed to the final is FRESH ‘N FAMOUS. The outfit recycles flour, Brennans Bread wrappers and Sellotape rolls. The girls used the flour with salt and water which they  baked and cut into shapes. After much experimenting with shapes and designs the girls, assisted and guided by Art teacher, Ms McGee settled on the final design which was inspired by Madonna and fifties fashion was modelled by Emer on the night.. The girls have put huge time and effort into the competition and feel it was all worth it. We eagerly await the finals and wish the girls and Ms McGee the best of luck .
