a1sx2_u14smcsvscoildarakilcock_u14_smcs_v_scoil_dara_kilcock.JPGWith our first two group games ending in a loss and a win , this was a game that was a must win in order to be in a driving position in order to get out of group A.

The boy’s professional attitude was flourishing with every game they played with some no nonsense preparation in getting ready and in the pre match warm up.

U 14 Soccer Report – Away to Piper’s Hill 29th January

a1sx2_u14smcsclane0216_u14_smcs_v_pipers_hill.JPGOur second game in our group was due to be played at home against Pipers Hill. With high levels of rain in the week leading up to the match,  A quick decision was made on our pitch and the decision was made to switch the fixture to Pipers Hill’s astro. This was an easy decision to give up our home advantage as our team were well used to training on the fast astro pitch in our own school. We arrived at 10:00 all ready and togged out and got a good half hour warm up. With the starting 11 lined up we kicked off our second match at 10:30.

Clane were quick and moved well with every pass in the opening 10 minutes. Dean O’Shea in his attacking midfield role shot 3 times from long range in an effort to get on the score sheet. The team communicated with each other by enforcing the phrase “ don’t let them out “ which allowed Clane to press with high energy to regain possession. Our first goal came in 13 minutes when the ball was played out to Ryan Burke on the right followed by some silky one touch passes between Ger O’Connor, Daniel Piare, Dean O’Shea, Ryan and then back to Ger who hit the back of the net with a right footed finish into the left hand side of the goal. “ Probably the best goal I have seen live in front of me” was a comment from one of our 5th years.

Clane pushed on again into their opposition’s half.  The 3 man midfield of Dan Piare, Ciaran Kerrigan and Dean O’Shea were passing the ball in dominant passing triangles and all were influential in the way Clane were playing. Trying to double their lead , chances fell to Ryan Burke who took on 3 players in the box only to be denied from a defender on the line. Another chance came to Gavin Reilly who took a shot from a wide left position. Ciaran Kerrigan was excellent in his tackling in midfield along with some clean neat foot work , while Dan Piare’s runs forward and through balls were causing trouble for the Piper’s Hill defense.

Scoil Mhuire v CBS Naas

a1sx2_U14Team_DSC_0150.JPGThe U14 Boys Soccer team played their first match on Monday the 18th January against CBS Naas. The boys have been working very hard since October in preparation for the group’s games this year.

The game was highly competitive for the full 60 minutes. Dean O’Shea scored the first goal from a stunning finish off a through ball from Gavin Reilly. The finish was slotted in to the left hand corner as he ran alongside CBS’ strong center half.

The Scoil Mhuire side was outstanding in the first half in every part of the pitch with some fantastic one touch passing and strong attacking line. A lively supporters line acted as the 12th Man as Clane were playing with confidence. CBS got the equalizer 1 minute before the whistle from a header in the box by Oisin Hand (CBS) .

In the second half the next goal came from Alex Rogers (CBS) with a mistake from our defense to allow CBS to tap in a goal from a half of a meter out. Clane pushed for their equalizer again in an exciting attacking play from Dean , Gavin, Ryan Burke and Ger O’Connor. CBS got the next goal in a controversial penalty decision, which our player seemed to get the ball from a normal standing tackle. Matthew Geoghegan (CBS) converted the penalty to make it 3-1. a1sx2_U14_DSC_0186.JPG

U15 Soccer Final

On a Clear fresh morning the U15 Soccer team were all togged out in a momentous occasion over in Newbridge Town’s  Astro Pitch. This final was the result of hard work and determination from a series of matches that started with the group stages back in October. We had previously played against Portlaoise where we had beaten them 3-0 on our Home Pitch. Portlaois walked away disappointed that day, having a strong squad where their chances weren’t converted. Straight away we had the mental upper hand , having beaten them once, sure why couldn’t we do it again.

With the Warm-up completed, the Jerseys on , and our 50 fans on the side-line , the boys lined up as a squad of 11 , hoping this match wouldn’t be their last.

Both Teams were cautious in their approach with the game, trying to get used to the fast wide pitch on the Astro. Clane were moving the ball confidently and looked the more dangerous of the two sides in the opening 20 minutes. The Portlaoise keeper looked a bit shaky , spilling a couple of catches which caused a couple of scrambles on the box for the much needed first goal. Carl James and Adam Byrne were timing their runs off the strikers well. Finn Gillispe and Eoin Carolan were creating some clever through balls to each other only to be closed down by the strong Portlaoise defence.

U13 Boys Soccer

Scoil Mhuire U13 boys soccer team played their Leinster Midlands Final against Athy in Newbridge on the 12th March.

The game didn't start the way Scoil Mhuire wanted. They were being put under pressure from the start by Athy. Not long into the first half, Athy won a penalty and it only just beat Keeper Kian Cleary at full stretch. Mid-way through the second half, the game became an end to end affair with both teams having chances to take the lead. Clane ended the half on top though and showed encouraging signs for the second half. Scoil Mhuire started the second half well and before they knew it, the score was level thanks to a Shane O' Conner goal. A second goal for Clane soon followed with James Behan scoring a well worked goal to put Scoil Mhuire ahead. Good defending lead by captain Conor Walsh kept Clane ahead for the rest of the game and Scoil Mhuire, managed by Mr Kavanagh, Mr Sheridan and Mr. Doherty with coaches Adam Dillon and Andy Watson won the U13 Boys Leinster Midlands Trophy for the third time, the second time in two years. The U13 Boys Leinster Quarter Final was in Tullamore on the 27th of March against Tullamore. Tullamore, a big, physical side started well in the match and were two goals up inside ten minutes of this match. Scoil Mhuire kept their cool however, and replied with a goal from Eoin Walsh that was well taken. Tullamore scored another goal to make it 3-1 at half time.
